Joan Mitchell often described herself as two people: "Little Joan and Big Joan". Big Joan went out into the world, travelled, moved through the NY art scene of the time, was cantankerous and loud, large, and full of whatever muscle was needed to meet the space and scene as a woman painting in the world.
But Little Joan's job was of a different kind.
Little Joan's job was in the studio- to paint, to listen, to be home and build her garden, play with her dogs, to listen, and to work. And, perhaps most importantly, to kick Big Joan out.
I honor your time and I honor my own. If you'd like to join me here I would be honored to share the space with you.
